End of Year SMARTR Outcome - Portrait of a Graduate (POG)

By the end of the 2020-2021 school year,  students will demonstrate critical and creative thinking skills through the completion of meaningful and engaging performance based-assessments and other learning tasks in their classes by improving at least one score point on the Critical and Creative Thinking rubric as reported through Science 7.

Strategy 1

Implementation of student portfolios in Schoology to capture student reflection to demonstrate and cultivate growth over time.

Strategy 2

Provide professional development opportunities designed to foster growth in creative and critical thinking through Blended Learning for synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.

End of Year SMARTR Outcome - Caring Culture

By the end of the 2020-2021 school year, students will have at least one adult at Cooper Middle School to whom they feel connected.

Strategy 1

Provide strategies and opportunities to develop effective student-staff relationships and a positive classroom culture.

Strategy 2

Implement Check & Connect strategies for staff members to have non-academic conversations with 1 student per week to build relationships through “Cooper Connects” time.

End of Year SMARTR Outcome - Student Achievement

Based on the 2020-2021 school year, the overall pass/ growth rate identified an achievement gap of 15% from students with disabilities compared to the general population of all students on the same SOL exams. Baseline data will be collected on the first summative unit assessment in both Math 7 and Pre-Algebra classes.

End of Year SMARTR Outcome - Access & Opportunity

The Cooper Time and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) planning teams will create a joint planning calendar to ensure weekly implementation of the identified skills and topics over the school year.

Strategy 1

Beginning in summer 2020, the Cooper Time Team will meet regularly to design and develop school-wide lessons related to induction of virtual learning and executive functioning skills.

Strategy 2

Beginning in the fall 2020, the SEL team will meet regularly to design lessons related to social-emotional learning.  Students will engage in a series of topics and conversations led by teachers and counselors as well as have regular opportunities to reflect on their personal growth.
